Sigma Pi
Why be a ∑∏?
Academics
In Sigma Pi, we strive to promote the intellectual growth of every member and to also assist our men in succeeding at college life. With this goal comes mentoring and incentives to support academic achievement. Academic success is also promoted by the fraternity having a minimum standard for GPA and by giving incoming new members the academic tools needed to succeed. As a Sigma Pi, you will have the advantage of being able to seek the advice of upperclassmen and to study with the many other brothers who share similar goals and aspirations in life.
Our goal is to help undergraduate men overcome the distractions and obstacles of college life, thus we prepare them for the numerous challenges faced upon leaving the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Sigma Pi expects its members to accept the challenge of developing their academic and leadership skills among the many others that are needed for a lifetime of success.
To maintain Sigma Pi standards, we constantly work to bring new men into our brotherhood that are natural leaders. From there, we turn natural leaders into even better leaders through programs, conferences, and chapter duties and responsibilities. Men of this Fraternity go on to become leaders in their communities, their state, on a national level, and around the world.
Our chapter currently has three different levels of positions which allow members to become engaged into starting at day one of membership. Sigma Pi - Tau Chapter offers executive council positions, committee chairman positions, and the opportunity to be a member of a committee. These opportunities allow our members to develop their leadership potential. We have several committees in our chapter ranging from Philanthropic to Homecoming Chair that are easy to get involved with and offer a great stepping block to building your leadership resume.
Leadership
One of our main goals as a chapter has been to become a part of something bigger than ourselves and remake the Tau chapter and Greek image. We believe that the majority of the student body and the community as a whole views fraternity and sorority life as the combination of kids irresponsibly partying, being self-centered, and academically lazy. We hope to help bring back the popularity of Greek life and to bring back its respectability, especially at Wisconsin. Tau Chapter actively recruits men who maintain the highest standards of integrity and men who also display academic drive.
Social Life
Although we hold our brothers to strict standards and responsibilities, a day in the life of a member of Tau chapter is always fun. While we strive for success in our academics and the community of Madison, Wisconsin, we also want to enjoy the years we have at the University of Wisconsin and with each other.
A few times per semester, we join up with a sorority for a social event. Social events are great and easy ways to meet new people and they are also key to Sigma Pi's continued success on campus by building and maintaining relationships with other Greek organizations. Our socials are great ways to relax after a stressful week of school that a prestigious university like Wisconsin demands from its students.
Besides social events, we host a two day, one night formal event at the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. Our most recent formal event was a great turnout where we enjoyed everyone's company, feasted at the buffet provided by the resort, and even enjoyed the indoor water park.
Sigma Pi's also get to participate in great events like Homecoming week. During this week, we get the great opportunity to get paired up with another sorority and compete in different events. Together we work on a routine for the "Air Band" competition, build a great float for the Homecoming Parade, and participate in many other planned events throughout the week. This is a great time to hang out with other Greek organizations and meet other people.

Campus Involvement
In Tau Chapter we value and encourage members to be involved in other student organizations and community volunteerism opportunities other than Sigma Pi. In joining these other organizations, our members advance their skills, grow as a person, and develop many valuable leadership qualities.
This is one of the key components of being a Sigma Pi at the University of Wisconsin. Our members are heavily involved in the community and on campus. Our members mark their involvements and encourage other members to participate as well.
A few examples include:
Model United Nations
Badger Business Buddies
LEED Scholars
American Red Cross Society
Beta Alpha Psi - Accounting Fraternity
American Institute of Chemical Engineers
Undergrad Neuroscience
Sigma Pi is very intent on giving back to the community and does so through philanthropic events and other community service projects. Our chapter regularly participates on other chapters’ philanthropies and other organization philanthropies like the Special Olympics' Polar Plunge.
Philanthropy
In Sigma Pi, we not only encourage members to participate in other chapters' and other organization's philanthropies but we host our own as well. For the past two years, Sigma Pi - Tau Chapter has helped organize a running race every October in Madison with the UW-Madison Police Department.
The Brittany Zimmerman 5K Memorial Run is a race that raises money for the UW Police Department as well as Neighborhood Watch Programs.
Not only do we help organize this race but soon Sigma Pi will have a national philanthropy which all chapters will run local events and contribute to.

Brotherhood
If you haven’t figured it out already, being a brother in Sigma Pi is a whole lot more than just socials and service, it’s a group of guys who watch out for each other, aggrandize each other’s lives, and make college and all of the years after so much better. Brotherhood is knowing that you have not one, but dozens of guys supporting you throughout your college experience. Sigma Pi is all about brotherhood, true friendships, and a network of lifelong friends. The men who are together in this fraternity stick together and maintain friendships for a lifetime.
The bonds of friendship tie each of our members together during college and post-graduate years. It is the friendships formed that lead to smiles, laughter, and ultimately memories you will cherish for a lifetime. We see each other through thick and thin, through college and beyond, and always know that they can count on each other. In Sigma Pi, it is the individual that makes the difference in the experience and a collection of brilliant individuals leads to the experience of a lifetime.
Sigma Pi would not be complete without brotherhood events like after chapter dinners, tailgates, study breaks, and late nights just hanging out around the house.
